And thanks to its ease of installation, user-friendly design, and low cost of entry compared to traditional intercom systems, HIVE’s front door innovation is catching on. The benefits of a “smarter” intercom extend beyond remote access and real-time connectivity. The ability to see and track multi-residential visitors also embeds a welcome layer of security and accountability for property managers. Verkada Intercom, the newest addition to Verkada’s product portfolio, empowers front desk staff to make smarter entry decisions.
But that type of integration requires a lot of work and setup on the homeowner’s part. Many New York co-op and condo buildings are equipped with video cameras so residents can see who’s at the front door. Now a growing number of boards are opting for cutting-edge technology that allows residents to see and speak with visitors and buzz them into the building – even if the resident is in the coffee shop at the corner or on the beach in Cancun.
However, if you’re looking for a doorbell that will keep things as native as possible in your setup, the Chime is your best bet. With an improved 5MP sensor and 2560 x 1920 video (up from 1.2MP and 1280 x 960 on the DS2), as well as a 180-degree wide angle view, the visuals ChatGPT from the Chime are superb; both in bright light and at night time. The DS2 is a much more ‘intercom’ like device and, I’ll be honest, it looked a bit daft on the front of my house which is definitely not a big mansion, where an intercom buzzer looks a lot more suitable.
Just plan to pick up an extra battery when you purchase, or factor in removing it from your door every few months to charge it for a few hours. If you’re concerned about keeping an eye on packages, a head-to-toe view will let you see the space in front of your door from top to bottom. Gene’s video has since racked up over 468,000 likes and thousands of comments from TikTok users applauding him for his public resignation.
It has also committed to supporting the new universal smart home standard Matter on its thermostats (Google is one of the founders of Matter). “We see Matter as a great addition to our thermostats; we’re committed to open ecosystems and ecosystems that matter to our customers. We haven’t made any announcements [about timing], but you’ll see some relatively soon,” CEO Stuart Lombard told me in an interview ahead of the launch of the doorbell. However, some companies who were bullish on Matter backed away when the technology or business models became too difficult to figure out and others have promised compatibility but are yet to deliver. Instead, they have stand-alone smart displays for viewing your doorbell feed, but those haven’t been refreshed in a while. Modern video doorbell products allow the use of mobile phones to see and talk to visitors at the door, but only Control4 Intercom Anywhere supports additional customizable programming.
Honda unveiled a sleeker 2018 Odyssey Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit featuring a range of design and technology updates. A minute-long video posted by local news outlet KHOU revealed some of the strange antics committed by the front vs intercom suspect, identified by police as Roberto Daniel Arroyo, 33. The Nest and Ecobee smart thermostats of the 2010s made their name by promising to save up to 30 percent and around 20 percent, respectively, on your energy bills (Nest later dialed that back a bit).
It will also collect conversations that happen outside of email, like video and chat, so all communication is accessible in one place. WBW provides subjective opinions and information on hard-to-find and unique motorcycling products. If you have been stuck thinking there are only 2 premium brands available for Bluetooth Helmet audio, you are missing out.
The Pro 2 will work with your existing doorbell chime, plus Ring sells a plug-in Chime and Chime Wi-Fi extender that can help boost connectivity while providing a selection of fun doorbell tones. The Sync Module is sold with the doorbell as a “doorbell system” for $70, and should pay for itself compared to a monthly subscription. Unlike the $100 Ring Battery Doorbell, the Plus uses removable, rechargeable batteries, making it easier to keep your doorbell charged. On-device AI makes the Nest speedy with notifications, and it delivers rich alerts to both your phone and watch.
I’ve used the QC45 in the past on airplanes and was never bothered by constant in-flight disruptions (e.g., crying babies, engine rumble, intercom announcements). The QC Headphones take advantage of new DSP changes, resulting in deeper bass and more natural sound when listening on the best music streaming services, and my streams from Tidal were spot-on. Bose’s Active EQ is part of the QC Headphones sound architecture and automatically tweaks sound on the go. What will draw you most to the QC Headphones is the customizable EQ via Bose Music app that allows you to create and store your own sound profile by adjusting bass, midrange, and treble to your liking. When unboxed, it’s unlikely that many consumers will be able to tell the QC Headphones apart from the QC45.
The FreedConn BM12 even advertises that the sizing might be a little off with its integrated intercom system, suggesting that you move a size up if you’re between sizes. The helmet also only comes in sizes L, XL, and XXL, and we would absolutely suggest checking the sizing chart before assuming your size. The helmet fits like a pillow, but not necessarily in a good way; it’s a little soft, and while your head and face will be padded everywhere, it’s not exactly a snug fit.
A reporter was able to walk into two different Brooklyn school buildings that had already been outfitted with intercoms without ringing the buzzer. At one campus, the intercom worked, and the school safety agent was able to hear and see people who approached the building, but the front door was unlocked. The school safety agent at the front desk said she had not yet been instructed to lock the door.
At the time, Sena did seem to be leading the pack regarding the introduction and evolution of the smart helmet. Fortunately, I and other wBW reviewers had the opportunities to complete reviews on most of these products over the years, as well as other newer to market products that could also be seen as ‘smart’ to varying degrees. This is also an extra versatile ADV lid, with a quick-change function to ditch the visor and swap to a street look in an instance without tools. When you do ride, both the venting and the shell of the Klim are shaped to reduce wind noise.
Some local parents support the nationwide trend toward locking or monitoring building access, including those at P.S. 28, a Queens school where an emotionally disturbed person entered the building in 2022 and was wrestled to the ground by the school’s jiu jitsu-trained principal. Campus visitors should allow for extra time and can avoid delays by calling ahead or making an appointment. Email startup Front has a self-appointed mission to reinvent how people use their work email, with a goal of disrupting Microsoft Outlook and Google’s Gmail along the way.
However, while I was slightly jealous of my neighbor’s slicker, more doorbell-esque, devices such as the Ring Pro 2 or Logitech Circle View, I wasn’t prepared to uncouple the doorbell element from my Control4 setup. Unboxing the HJC C10 revealed that the Korean helmet company has made significant improvements in terms of quality and fit and finish. The CS-15 was already extremely well-built, with remarkable build quality for its price point, and the C10 is no exception – it even goes a step beyond in terms of overall build quality.

For many users, a video doorbell offers more utility in a compact package, allowing them to watch a front door, enable conversations, keep a watch on packages and generally manage security in a limited location. Security cams work indoors or outdoors, are less likely to have audio features, and you can place them nearly anywhere. They often function better as part of a larger home security system, while video doorbells are excellent solo devices.
This will also trickle charge the battery, and the doorbell will still work and record video, even if your power and Wi-Fi go out. I always recommend using existing doorbell wires if you have them; you’ll never have to worry about charging your doorbell (see my FAQ for more on this). Battery-powered options will do if there’s no way to wire; removable or replaceable batteries are important here — taking your entire doorbell down to charge it up every three months is a pain. The kit consists of the helmet clamp with microphone, it slips under the side of the helmet between the EPS and helmet liner, just like the Cardo apater we showed in the review. You do need the Bell Helmet Sena intercom adapter kit ($35.96) though, which is a different headset connector from the Sena adapter kit shown in our review.
It’s also easy to install, performs well and has reasonable cloud storage fees starting at just $3 per month for a single camera and $10 for up to five cameras. With a cloud storage subscription, this wired doorbell gives you access to advanced functionality like custom person, animal, vehicle and package alerts. The convenience of video doorbells can’t be overstated — their human detection and range of smart features make them an essential addition to your home.
The inner sun visor can be raised and lowered according to the users need with the help of a smooth side slide system. The sun visor provides good wrap-around coverage without affecting visibility. The field of view it gives is also quite wide and ensures good peripheral vision. The front face of this modular helmet can be easily opened with the touch of a button and it locks into place in the open position.
Both of these smart helmets served us best while commuting or riding solo. While Sena’s intercom system makes it viable for a group ride, anyone listening to music while riding in a group cannot fully be aware of the rolling situations, and we don’t encourage it. The SafeSound has a wind-resistant microphone located under the front lip of the helmet as well. An emergency text will be sent out to a contact chosen in the Coros app when the helmet detects an impact while in use.
While the Chime is now the most affordable native Control4 door buzzer, there are now similarly-priced alternatives available within the premium smart home ecosystem. I’ve asked Control4 what’s going on here and I’ll update this review as soon as I hear back. However, there is a plan to ditch Intercom Anywhere soon and integrate everything within the Control4 Smart Home OS 3 app. That was supposed to have happened by now though… so there’s obviously a few issues. For example, I’ve set it up that when motion is detected at night time by my Chime the porch light turns on (and likewise I’ve got an automation where the light turns off again when no motion is sensed).
Yet, there is one point of contention for me, and that is the helmet’s visor. The C10’s visor detents are much larger than the CS-15’s, and opening the visor to the first detent – particularly useful when riding through densely populated urban centers – provides a hole wide enough to allow bugs and debris in while riding. This helmet is designed to be the successor to the popular HJC CS-15 in the Asian and European markets, a helmet which I wrote a detailed review on a couple of years ago.
The main benefit of Ring Intercom is the ability to talk to visitors and buzz them in remotely, using your phone from anywhere or an Echo device if you’re at home. But having packages or food deliveries make it inside the building and potentially to your front door, rather than sitting on the doorstep exposed to the elements and potential thieves, also adds another level of security and convenience. The Shoei RF-SR certainly outclasses the FreedConn BM12 in every way that a helmet fits, feels, and protects. Sure, it’s almost 2lbs lighter, handmade from fiberglass, and uses high quality materials, but it doesnt have the Bluetooth connections and costs more than twice as much. For some, comfort and protection are paramount when selecting a helmet, but if this doesn’t concern you as much, the FreedConn BM12 simply has more features.
It’s also packing a microphone and speaker for two-way audio, a quick-release rechargeable battery pack, and motion sensors. You can tap into the live view at any time and there’s infrared night vision for when it’s dark. When someone rings the bell or the motion sensors pick up action, it triggers an alert. The Ring Video Doorbell 2 has a camera capable of streaming or recording high definition 1080p video, a microphone, a speaker, a removable and rechargeable battery pack, and motion sensors.
You can foun additiona information about ai customer service and artificial intelligence and NLP. It may not have the intercom connectivity built in like the FreedConn BM12, but it is a comfortable, well-known brand which takes pride in safety over gimmicks. Neither helmet is at the top of the line but, for the same price, it leaves questions about how FreedConn can afford to provide the extra features, while still providing the same protection. There are other options for adding a motorcycle Bluetooth headset to an existing helmet that aren’t too expensive, but if an all-in-one system is what you require, It’s hard to beat the FreedConn at this price range. There was one other glaring problem that might be a one-off manufacturing issue. Switching over to the intercom system, the irritating sound didn’t go away, but the distance it would stay connected was impressive. It only disconnected at around 450 meters, compared to the advertised 500 meters, and when coming back into range, it reconnected automatically.
Without it, you can only see video if there’s a motion event or someone rings the doorbell. I’ve tested more than 35 video doorbells, and while there’s no one-size-fits-all — like a smartphone, it’s a personal choice — I have thoughts on which are the best of the best and which work well for specific use cases. All video doorbells should offer a live feed from the camera, but so you can see visitors you missed a cloud or local storage option for video recordings is also important.
Both pairs of headphones have the same carrying case, control layout, dimensions, materials, ports, and silhouette. With the arrival of two new noise-canceling headphone models joining the 2023 line up, Bose has been discounting older models. The new QC Headphones replace the QC45, but they’re still available at plenty of online retailers, making them a great option for consumers seeking high-quality ANC cans for less. The QC Headphones come with enhanced sound, more features, and the same celebrated noise cancelation as their predecessor. In a call with Klevio co-founder and CEO Aleš Špetič, he explained that the approach the London-based company has taken is different to smart locks that typically use a motor to turn the lock and require tearing out and replacing your existing lock. In contrast, if you already have an electric strike as part of your lock — which a lot of apartments do — the Klevio One can simply be wired to interface with it.
Paul is a self-confessed geek and has been accused of being both an Apple ‘fanboy’ and a Google ‘fandroid’ – so at least you know that his bias is balanced. Paul, along with James Stables, turned Wareable into the Wareable Media Group when they launched sister site The Ambient, back in 2018. In mid-2019 they added a third site to the portfolio when Get Sweat Go was launched and, in 2023, the company was acquired by Candr Media Group, of Trusted Reviews fame. When my Chime is pressed it alerts my Control4 display, which provides a live view before you choose to answer, as well as my phone where I have the Intercom Anywhere app installed. Measuring in at 130mm x 40mm x 28mm, it is a much better fit for the front of my house and, I dare say, many other more modest houses with Control4 systems installed.
You might find that you prefer to ride in silence and signal your passenger with hand gestures. It’s also an excellent secondary helmet for the occasional ride with your friends who want to communicate while keeping a nicer helmet for more serious or solo riding. As far as selecting a helmet goes, this is clearly a lower-tier helmet, and if you should choose between getting a nice helmet for safety and comfort or getting a helmet to talk to your friends with, we’d suggest the former. The controls are a bit finicky; they might become more obvious if you get used to the device over a longer period of time, but it wasn’t immediately user-friendly.

The Blink Video Doorbell is the best cheap doorbell with a no-subscription option. And while it works as a wired doorbell, it’s also a good option for a battery-powered buzzer, as it can go up to two years on two AAs. I don’t love this doorbell, as video and audio quality are not great, but it’s cheap, it gets the job done, and that battery life is phenomenal. The Nest Doorbell Wired (2nd-gen) is one of only two video doorbells in this list that can record 24/7. Scrolling through a continuous timeline view of everything that’s happened at your front door is super helpful and means you won’t miss anything. This, along with a good price, great video quality, the ability to tell you what and who is at your door, and some free recorded video, make it the best doorbell for most people.
A true wired doorbell, while the Ring Pro 2 is one of the most responsive doorbells I’ve tested, delivering notifications immediately. It also has the best range and connectivity, and built-in, full-color preroll helps ensure you don’t miss any crucial action. The Blink comes in white or black and, because it uses just two AA batteries, isn’t as huge as most battery-powered ChatGPT App doorbells, making it a more discreet option. However, it is a giant pain in the neck to install; make sure to follow the video instructions Blink provides closely to save a lot of frustration. Blink’s buzzer is the best if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option with motion-activated recording and alerts, night vision, two-way audio, and up to two years of battery life.
